Quotes
for Thought |
|
Sometimes it seems as though we spend our lives
waiting. Daydreaming about an upcoming vacation, worrying over a
medical test, preparing for the birth of grandchild-our days are
filled with anticipation and anxiety over what the future holds.
As Christians, we too spend our lives waiting. But we are waiting
for something much bigger than a trip, bigger even than retirement
or a wedding: We are waiting for the return of Jesus in glory.
Advent heightens this sense of waiting, because it marks not only
our anticipation of Jesus' final coming, but also our remembrance
of his arrival into our world more than 2,000 years ago.

Love came down on Christmas Day so many years
ago and brought the greatest happiness the world would ever
know...Peace came down on Christmas Day to fill the hearts of men with
all the sweet tranquility each Christmas brings again...Joy came down
on Christmas Day as angels came to earth heralding the miracle of our
Messiah's birth.

The New Year is a time to learn to rely more heavily on the
grace of God. Now I've met a few self-made men and women and so have
you, but so often these people seem proud, self-centered and driven.
There is another way: beginning to trust in God's help. One secret
from the Apostle Paul: "I can do everything through Him who gives me
strength," he said. (Phil 4:13, NIV) And God's strength saw him
through pain, joy, and accomplishment.

How Much Does
God Love You?
Only God can answer this question. Fortunately, we have a book
available where we can find out what God thinks: the Bible.
(What a wonderful thought that is! We can read and know what GOD
thinks! Don't let yourself be robbed of this great privilege by
being too busy.)
PSALM 103:13 NIV - 13 As a father has compassion on his
children, so the LORD has compassion on those who fear him;
One way we can begin to get an inkling of God's love for us is
to know what it is like to have our own children. Psalm 103:13
tells us that the same deep feelings a parent has for their
child, are also present in God toward us. The word in this verse
means much more than "compassion." It is a very deep
feeling -- hard to express in words. This is what God feels for
you!
(You may wonder why. I may wonder why God would feel that way
about you or me. All I can say is: parents can be pretty silly
over their children! I have seen some I didn't think were too
special, but the parents sure thought they were special!)
Another way we can judge how much God loves us is by what He was
willing to go through to redeem us and have us in His family. A
lot!
We are familiar with John 3:16, but often being familiar with
something keeps us from grasping it as fully and clearly as we
should. Think about it: God so loved the dirty, rotten,
rebellious world of people -- even those who hated Him -- that
He decided to suffer the punishment that justice demanded so
they could go free.
God loves you -- no matter who you are -- no matter what you
have done. He loves you more than you can imagine or understand.
God loves you more than He loves Himself. That is proven by the
fact that He put your interest and your feelings ahead of His
own, choosing to suffer so you could go free.
How can anyone not love and worship such a Being as our
wonderful God?
SAY THIS: God loves me. God loves me. God loves me.
EPHESIANS
4:31-32 ICB
31 Do not be bitter or angry or mad. Never shout angrily or
say things to hurt others. Never do anything evil. 32 Be
kind and loving to each other. Forgive each other just as
God forgave you in Christ.
As a human who has been hurt, you may find it impossible to
forgive and walk in love. But as a child of God, with God
helping you, you can do it.
God freely forgave you. Now, with His love placed in your
heart, you are to act like Him and forgive others.
EPHESIANS 5:1-2 NIV
1 Be imitators of God, therefore, as dearly loved children 2
and live a life of love, just as Christ loved us and gave
himself up for us as a fragrant offering and sacrifice to
God.
Putting others first is the essence of walking in love.
Selfishness is the opposite of walking in divine love.
COLOSSIANS 3:12-13 NIV
12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly
loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility,
gentleness and patience.
13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you
may have against one another. Forgive as the Lord forgave
you.
If you are having trouble with this, just ask the Lord to
work in you and change you. Tell Him you need help.

The Precious Name
How sweet the name of
Jesus Sounds in a believer's ear:
it soothes his sorrows, heals His wounds,
and drives away his fear.
It makes the wounded spirit whole, and calms the trouble breast;
'Tis manna to the hungry soul,
and to the weary, rest.
Dear name (Jesus), the rock on which I build,
My shield and hiding-place-place;
My never-failing treasure, filled
With boundless stores of grace.
Jesus, my shepherd, Saviour , Friend,
My Prophet, Priest, and King,
My Lord, my life, my Way, my End.
Accept the praise I bring.
I would Thy boundless love proclaim
With every fleeting breath;
So shall the music of Thy name
Refresh my soul in death.
